One thing that really strikes you watching West Indies live is that you realize just how big Chris Gayle is. I mean, you know that he’s big. You hear him described as big. You watch him on television and can see that he’s big. But you see him striding around out there in the middle and he is just a physically enormous chunk of a human being. He doesn’t just make Chahal look tiny, he makes Bumrah look tiny.
But he hasn’t been imposing with his scores so far in this World Cup. Mohammad Shami may look miniature next to Gayle, but he’s still able to bowl fast enough to draw the mistake. And Gayle’s giant form lumbers off the field once more.
The first ball from Bumrah in this over tells you about the mindset of the Indian bowlers. Bumrah bowls a yorker, not as perfect as he would have liked but this is a message to Hope and Ambris. Be very, very watchful. The margin of error is very minimal here. Hope tries to play a drive on the up and he found himself nowhere really as the ball passed the edge. Two balls later, the edge is produced but it falls short of Kohli at second slip. Windies nervous and under the pump. Just 2 off the over.
